Case Study
928 Tint. A new shop, built from the name up.
Jonny Martin has tinted hundreds of vehicles. He didn't have a business of his own. About a month after one conversation, he had a name, a brand, a website, and a shop in Prescott Valley.
The Brief
The skill was there. The business wasn't.
Jonny is my brother. He has tinted hundreds of vehicles over the years, and he loves doing it. Trucks, classics, semis, side-by-sides, boats, houses. If it has glass, he has probably put film on one.
When my wife and I moved back to Arizona in the middle of August, he and I sat down and caught up. He had the hands and the reputation. What he didn't have was a business with his own name on the door.
We started running numbers, and I asked him why he didn't start one and call it 928 Tint, after Yavapai County's area code. It's professional, it's simple, and it's a name you can brand. He was looking at shop space the next day.
How Fast It Moved
From a conversation to a shop, in about a month.
-
Mid-August
One conversation at the table. The name 928 Tint comes out of it.
-
The next day
LLC, domain, and branding started. Jonny is already looking at shop space.
-
September 1
928tint.com goes live.
-
September
Jonny moves into the shop in Prescott Valley and books his first full wrap there.
-
October 2
Brand shoot at the shop. The photos go onto the site the same night.
What I Built
Everything a new shop needs, under one roof.
A lot of new businesses piece this together from four or five different people. Jonny got it from one. That means the name, the site, the phone line, and the photos all pull in the same direction.
-
The name and the brand
928 is Yavapai County's area code. It's simple, it says where he works, and it's a name he can put on a truck. From there came the LLC, the domain, the logo, the business cards, and a branded email address.
-
A website that shows the work
Custom coded, no WordPress and no page builder. More than 600 pages, with a portfolio of his real jobs and over 1,400 of his own photos, each job listing the shade that went on every window.
-
Pages people actually search for
A page for each vehicle he has tinted the most, a page for each tint shade shown on real cars, a page for each town he serves, and a price sheet out in the open.
-
Every lead in one place
A business phone line, a text back when he misses a call because his hands are on glass, and every quote request dropped straight into Paydirt, the CRM I built for local service businesses.
-
Found on Google
Google Business Profile set up, Search Console verified, and structured data on every page so Google reads what the shop does and where.
-
Brand photography
A shoot at the shop once he was moved in. Portraits, the bay, and Jonny working, so the site shows the person you are handing your keys to.
The Website
His work does the selling. The site just shows it.
Jonny had years of photos of his own jobs, each with a note on what film went where. I turned every one into its own page. So when someone searches for tint on their truck, they land on a page of real trucks with the shades listed and the price next to them. The pages I have measured score 100 across the board on Google's mobile scoring.
The Photos
People hire a person. So I photographed one.
Once Jonny was in the shop, I brought the lights over. An evening of shooting gave him portraits for the About page, the bay for the service pages, and a set of him working that he can post for months.
I'm a firm believer that your environment matters. Running a business is hard, but it isn't impossible, and who you have around you makes a world of difference. I'm proud of my brother.
